Castries, Saint Lucia – The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF), in collaboration with the Customs and Excise Department, has intensified efforts against drug trafficking, resulting in a major Saint Lucia drug seizure involving cannabis, cocaine, and firearms.
On Monday, December 16, 2024, officers attached to the Drug Unit, supported by Customs officials, intercepted a suspicious consignment during routine inspections at the Vigie Cargo Shed in Castries. Packages containing 66 pounds of suspected cannabis were discovered among imported items. Authorities detained one male suspect for questioning, though he was later released pending further investigation.
The seizure underscores law enforcement’s commitment to combatting illegal drug trafficking at key entry points across Saint Lucia.
In a separate operation on Wednesday, January 1, 2024, the RSLPF made another significant breakthrough, uncovering a cache of drugs, firearms, and ammunition during a property search in Cas En Bas, Gros Islet.
Acting on an assault report, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) executed a Warrant to Search for Property at the residence of a male suspect. The search revealed:
- A 9mm pistol
- 22 rounds of 9mm ammunition
- One 5.56mm round
- 289 packages of suspected cocaine
A second male was present at the premises during the raid and was also taken into custody. The RSLPF has confirmed that charges against both suspects are forthcoming.
