CASTRIES, St Lucia — Operation Zero Hour led to the recovery of seven firearms, 1,006 rounds of ammunition and multiple arrests across St Lucia, according to a release from the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force. The island-wide operation ran from May 24 to July 1, police said.
The RSLPF said the intelligence-led initiative was aimed at disrupting criminal activity, increasing police visibility and strengthening public safety. Police did not immediately release the identities of those arrested or charged, and a full breakdown of the locations searched was not provided.
What We Know
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force said 484 persons were searched and 4,851 vehicles were stopped during Operation Zero Hour.
Police said officers searched 216 vehicles, searched 17 premises and executed 49 search warrants.
The operation included seven courier sweeps, four highway patrol operations and the stopping and boarding of 37 vessels, according to the RSLPF.
Police reported 453 traffic tickets, nine traffic-related arrests, 16 drug-related arrests and seven firearm-related arrests.
The RSLPF said 12 arrests were made for serious offences, including murder, attempted murder, robbery and assault.
Police said 12 persons were formally charged.
The RSLPF reported the recovery of seven firearms, 1,006 rounds of ammunition and the seizure of 54 dangerous weapons.
Police also reported three cannabis eradication exercises, 48 vehicles impounded and 45 police cautions issued.
In a separate May case, police reported a firearm-related arrest after a warrant execution in Leslie Land.
