TAROUBA, Trinidad and Tobago — Heritage Petroleum Company Limited says it has completed the removal of contaminated soil following reports of the scent and sightings of oil near Rangie Nanan Drive in Tarouba, as investigations and environmental monitoring continue in the area.
The company said the cleanup was carried out “as a matter of urgency” after the incident was initially reported. Heritage added that it has maintained ongoing investigations and monitoring efforts while working with regulatory agencies and nearby residents.
Air quality testing is also being conducted by the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute as a precautionary measure to ensure that safe levels are maintained in the surrounding community, amid broader scrutiny surrounding Trinidad and Tobago’s energy sector and major petroleum operations.
Heritage said its personnel remain accessible to residents in the area, providing updates and responding to concerns linked to the incident. The company also stated that medical services have been made available to residents who may require support.
Regulators monitor response to Tarouba oil sighting
According to Heritage, the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, the Environmental Management Authority, and other relevant agencies were notified and continue to be involved in the response efforts.
The company did not disclose the source of the oil sightings or whether the incident was linked to a pipeline leak, spill, or other infrastructure issue. No evacuations or injuries were reported in the latest update.
Heritage said it remains committed to implementing all necessary response, monitoring, and remediation measures as investigations continue.
The company indicated that additional updates will be provided as required while authorities and environmental officials continue oversight of the situation.
