CASTRIES, St Lucia — A Careille Drug Raid has resulted in a guilty plea and a $20,000 court fine after police recovered suspected cannabis resin during a targeted operation in Castries.
Police said the operation was carried out on Thursday, April 9, 2026, by officers attached to the Marine Intelligence and Investigations Unit, the Special Services Unit, and the Tactical Response Unit. During the search, law enforcement officers recovered what was described as suspected cannabis resin at the premises.
Authorities identified the accused as 44-year-old Jamaican national Phil Campbell, who was arrested and later charged by the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit with Possession of Controlled Drugs and Possession of Controlled Drugs with Intent to Supply.
Campbell subsequently appeared before the court, where he pleaded guilty to the charges. He was fined EC$20,000, which must be paid within seven days. If the payment is not made within that period, he will serve six months in prison.
Inside the Careille Drug Raid and the Guilty Plea That Followed
The case marks another enforcement action as police continue operations targeting suspected narcotics activity in and around Castries. It also follows recent raids in Dennery that ended in a gun bust and three charges, highlighting continued police pressure on suspected criminal activity across the island. The swift guilty plea also brings an immediate legal conclusion to the Careille matter, avoiding a prolonged court process.
Law enforcement agencies have not released further details on the quantity of the substance seized or whether additional investigations are ongoing.
What the Sentence Means
The seven-day deadline places immediate financial pressure on the convicted man, while the alternative custodial sentence underscores the legal risks attached to drug possession and supply offences in St Lucia.
The matter also signals continued coordination between specialist police units in intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting suspected drug networks.
